The Malaysian government has postponed the implementation of the Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) several times. But very likely, the implementation will start sometime in 2019 at the Singapore-Malaysia border first. In the future, the VEP may be implemented gradually at other entry points in Malaysia.
Update (October 2024): The implementation of VEP officially started on October 1, 2024. You only need to finish the registration process (you can use the confirmation email as proof if asked). The physical tag is not required yet. Drivers who haven't registered VEP would get a warning letter.
Although the VEP is not strictly implemented, is not required as of January 2019 for cars driving from Singapore to Malaysia, all car owners who may drive the car to Malaysia should be prepared.
This Driving to Malaysia guide explains how to register the Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP), what to do after the registration, when and how to collect it, and how to use the Malaysian VEP.
What is Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?
When you enter Malaysia, you need a visa or some sort of permission (e.g., visa-free) to cross the border. When your car tries to enter Malaysia, it also needs similar permission. So, when you drive to Malaysia, you need a visa (or visa-free), and your car needs a vehicle entry permit.
Malaysia Road Transport Act 1987 section 66H is the legal base for the Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). Currently, the Road Transport Department (abbreviated JPJ in Malay) under the Malaysian Ministry of Transport issues VEP (in the form of an RFID tag glued to the windshield or headlamp) to foreign vehicles.
Technically, all foreign cars entering Malaysia will require the VEP.
With VEP, the Malaysian authority will have the info on the car and the owner. So, it will be easier for the Malaysian government to settle traffic offenses involving foreign cars. For example, they may stop you for outstanding summons when you try to leave Malaysia.
Currently, the Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is valid for 5 years. You need to renew it before the expiry date.
Although it was announced that the VEP would cost RM25, apparently, the money was not collected as of December 2018. However, as of 2024, you need to pay:
- Processing fee (RM 10).
- Service fee (RM 29.5 +8% SST)
- Postage fee (RM 14.42) if you choose to receive the tag through postage and paste by yourself.
You need to pay additional service fees if you choose to collect the tag from the VEP information counter (under MY VEP Pte Ltd).
You should not confuse VEP with the Road Charge (RC) for foreign vehicles. RC (currently RM20) is charged for foreign vehicles when it enters Malaysia (through Johor only currently). Each time your car enters Malaysia, you need to pay for it. As a comparison, VEP is a permit with a 5-year validity period and costs around RM50.
Is it compulsory to get a Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) to drive to Malaysia?
Legally, yes, it is compulsory to get the Malaysia VEP if you drive a Singapore-registered car to Malaysia.
However, it has NOT been implemented yet as of January 2019. So, most cars crossing the Singapore-Malaysia border in January 2019 do not have a valid VEP yet.
The tricky thing is you do not know when exactly it will be implemented.
Update on April 26, 2019: According to the Straits Times, Malaysia VEP will be required for Singapore cars entering Malaysia through the Southern border (two checkpoints in JB) from October 1, 2019. Based on the history of previous announcements, it could be enforced until October 32 (i.e., postponed again).
Update on October 1, 2024: The implementation of VEP officially started on October 1, 2024. You only need to finish the registration process (you can use the confirmation email as proof if asked). The physical tag is not required yet. Drivers who haven't registered VEP would get a warning letter.
So, you should register VEP now if you haven't done it!
How to register Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?
Update: there are now three steps for the registration:
- Register at the JPJ VEP portal.
- Link your Touch N' Go eWallet account to your Singapore IC.
- Upload documents and finish the registration in TCSsens portal for VEP.
Step 1: Register at the JPJ VEP portal
You can only register for the VEP online using the VEP portal (https://vep.jpj.gov.my/#/). You need to create/register an account on the portal. As far as I know, there are no other ways to register VEP.
Anyway, It is very easy. It just takes a few minutes to register for the vehicle entry permit. There is even a very detailed guide for the whole process.
The portal looks like this:
You need to provide the following info for the VEP registration:
- Your personal info. There are no special requirements. You just fill in the basic personal info.
- Your vehicle info. Although you can fill out the form manually, you can save a lot of time by simply uploading the PDF file of your car registration. The system will extract the info and fill the form for you automatically. Please note you MUST use the PDF file downloaded from OneMotoring/LTA (https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/). If you scan the hard copy of your car registration sheet as a PDF file, the system will not recognize it.
After you submit the registration, you can then download a copy of the registration confirmation slip (as illustrated below), which will also be sent to your email.
If you find anything is not correct, you can amend/update it in the portal at any time.
You will need to use the VEP portal for any updates, booking the appointment for VEP RFID tag collection, and renewing VEP. So, keep the account info in a safe and accessible location.
Update: VEP tag-related work has been outsourced to a company called TCSens SDN BHD. So, after finishing the initial registration, you need to follow the link in the confirmation email to go to vepams.jpj.gov.my (which is actually the TCSsens portal for VEP) to upload the documents, choose ways to collect the tag, and book appointments for the collection. This is step 3.
Before jumping to step 3, you MUST settle your Touch N' Go eWallet account in step 2.
Step 2: Link your Touch N' Go eWallet account to your Singapore IC
You need to download the Touch N' Go eWallet app from the Google Play Store or Apple's AppStore.
It is easy to register an account. However, by default, for non-Malysians, the Touch N' Go eWallet account is linked to the passport.
The VEP tag requires the account to be linked to Singapore IC (for SC and SPR). There are no automated ways to link the eWallet account to a Singapore IC. You can call or email them. Both are slow.
The fastest way is to contact them through the online chat inside the app. You need to prepare the scanned IC (back and front). The link can then be done in a few minutes.
According to the support staff in Touch N' Go, the link is only reflected in their backend. In the app, your account is still linked to the passport.
Anyway, it is unclear why they cannot make the process seamless.
Step 3: Upload documents and finish the registration in TCSsens portal for VEP
Once your Touch N' Go eWallet account is ready, you can upload the required documents and complete the registration.
If your Touch N' Go account is not associated with your IC, you will not be able to submit the registration. You need to do it again after the account issue is solved.
What to do after registering Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?
After successfully submitting the documents, you will have to wait for verification. The verification now usually takes a few days.
You will receive an email notification with a subject like “Verification Approval for XXXXX – Approved”
In the email, they ask you to go to the TCSsens portal for VEP to select the VEP RFID tag collection method and make payment.
What are the available methods for EP RFID tag collection?
Currently, TCSsens offers a few methods to collect the VEP tag, including:
- By post. You pay the postage (about RM 15) and get the tag in your doorstep. You need to paste it on the headlamp (read on).
- Collection at TCSens VEP collection center personally. The address is: Block 6, G Floor, Danga Walk Batu 41, 2, Skudai Hwy, Danga Bay, 80200 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia.
- Collection at VEP information counter in Singapore (MY VEP Pte Ltd). The address is: 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5, #03-01, Singapore 757515.
TCSsens may add more collection methods/locations in the future.
Please note the cost of each method is different.
If you choose to receive the VEP tag through post, it usually takes 4-6 weeks after the payment. For other methods, you need to make appointments.
What is the correct ID type to link VEP tag to Touch ‘n Go eWallet?
Your VEP tag will be linked to a Touch ‘n Go eWallet before you can submit the documents for verification (step 3). when you collect the VEP tag.
If you are a Singaporean (holding a Singapore passport), you should choose NRIC as your ID type in the Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
If you are not a Singaporean (holding a passport from countries other than Singapore), you should choose the passport as ID type in the eWallet.
If you choose the wrong ID type, then you cannot link them. You need to create a new account for the Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
Once linked, the road charge (RC) will be automatically paid by the eWallet. Of course, you can still use the Touch ‘n Go card to pay the RC if the balance is insufficient.
Please note you can reload (top up) the eWallet, but not the Touch ‘n Go card, through the app.
On how to buy and use Touch ‘n Go, you may check this Touch ‘n Go card guide for Singapore drivers.
How to collect Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?
Update: This part is outdated. Now, you have at least three different methods to collect the VEP tag.
You will receive an email notifying you that your VEP RFID tag is ready. The subject of the email is something like “VEP RFID Tag Collection Invitation”.
Do NOT wait for an SMS! They do not send any text messages.
Of course, you can also check the status in the TCSens VEP portal.
The invitation email actually asks you to book an appointment for the collection. In December 2018, the email looked like this:
Dear XXXXX,
Thank you for registering your Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) online account. We would like you to present yourself at the VEP Tag Collection Centre in Malaysia to collect your VEP RFID Tag.
You can collect your VEP RFID Tag at any of these four (4) VEP Tag Collection Centres:
1) Lima Kedai Toll Plaza
2) Pandan RnR
3) Gelang Patah Southbound RnR
4) Plaza Angsana Open Carpark CTo select your choice of collection centre, you have to book an appointment date and time for collection in the Tag Appointment menu by clicking this link:
Link removed
Please note that all appointments must be made via the Tag Appointment menu in VEP Portal and we will not entertain any walk-ins during the tag collection.
Reminder:
You must come to the VEP Tag Collection Centre with your registered vehicle to collect the VEP RFID Tag.

Road Transport Department,
Ministry of Transport, Malaysia

You should bring the documents as required. You also need to get a Touch ‘n Go card to pay the road charge.
The collection point is NOT an office building. Some of them are container offices like the one below.
During the collection, the RFID tag will be actually pasted on the windscreen. The location is somewhat awkward. It is on the top part of the windscreen and close to the middle. But it should not affect the driver's view because 1). The tag is small; 2). The location is usually obstructed by the rear-view mirror already in most cars.
The whole process will take about 30 mins to one hour. The officials need to test the tag with a handheld device. Of course, they will also check the car engine and chassis number.
How to use Malaysia Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?
VEP is legally just a permit for your car to enter Malaysia.
But the tag contains the car information and is tied to your Touch ‘n Go eWallet. It is possible to use the tag as using the IU in Singapore
Currently, the VEP tag is only used at the two checkpoints: Sultan Iskandar Building (Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, BSI) via the causeway and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (Kompleks Sultan Abu Baka, KSAB) via the Second link.
At the immigration counter, the tag will be recognized automatically. If the balance in your Touch ‘n Go eWallet is higher than RM20, the road charge (RC) will be deducted from the balance automatically, and you do not need to pay with the Touch ‘n Go card.
What about Singapore VEP?
Singapore VEP is required for foreign-registered cars. Currently, the levy is S$35 per day for cars and $4 per day for motorcycles. Without such a charge, some Singaporeans may try to register cars in Malaysia and mainly use them in Singapore, considering the high car prices in Singapore.
Anyway, Singapore cars do NOT need to pay Singapore VEP. In fact, Singapore cars do NOT need to pay anything on the Singapore side when entering Singapore.
Latest update on VEP registration, RFID (tag) collection and implementation (enforcement)
Here are some latest updates on Malaysian VEP registration, RFID tag collection, Touch ‘n Go eWallet registration, and VEP implementation/enforcement.
Update 7: (October 1, 2024) VEP implementation starts on October 1, 2024 (no joke this time).
But you only need to finish the registration process. The physical VEP tag is not required at this time.
A warning letter may be issued for drivers who did not register the car for VEP when entering Malaysia.
Update 6: (October 10, 2019) It is official: No VEP enforcement until 2020.
As reported by the Straits Times and Channel News Asia, Malaysian VEP enforcement is now officially suspended until next year (sometime in 2020). This was announced by the Malaysia Transport Minister Anthony Loke in a news conference on October 9, 2019.
So, Singapore car owners now have ample time to go through the registration and collection process.
Update 5: (October 7, 2019) VEP is not enforced in both peak and non-peak hours
In both checkpoints (Sultan Iskandar CIQ and KSAB), nobody asks for VEP. But if you haven't registered it, you should do it NOW.
Update 4: (September 23, 2019) Official announcement: VEP enforcement deferred until further notice
Today, the Malaysian Ministry of Transport (MOT) finally released the official announcement on VEP enforcement on October 1, 2019.
The announcement is vague (attached below):
- The enforcement of VEP for outbound traffic in peak hours will be deferred until further notice.
- A new VEP tag collection point (fitment centre) will be added to the KSAB.
- Some improvements in registration and appointment booking will be expected.
It is unclear:
- How about the inbound traffic (entering Malaysia)?
- How will it be enforced?
- What time is classified as “peak hours”?
- How about owners who have registered, but yet to book an appointment?
- How about owners who have registered, and booked the collection appointment but the appointment is beyond October 1?
Anyway, here is the 2-page announcement.
Update 3 (September 18, 2019). You may drop in to collect the RFID tag if you have problems booking an appointment.
In several car groups, it is reported that you can drop in for the VEP installation. But
- you need to arrive there before they issue queue numbers.
- You will be catered to after all appointments.
- they will check their system and may tell you that your vehicle/registration is not ready.
- they may refuse to accept drop-ins at any time.
Anyway, if you are very anxious about your VEP and you have enough free time, you may try your luck.
Update 2 (September 10, 2019). Channel 8 (in Chinese) posted the news on the update.
You can view it on YouTube.
Please note the reporter got the information from the on-site staff, not from officials. So, the information may not be accurate.
For those who cannot understand Mandarin, here are the key points in the clip:
- VEP will be enforced on October 1, 2019 (Again, this is only what the reporter heard).
- The fine will be up to RM300 for offences. (Note: it should be up to RM150, according to the law.)
- Those who registered their VEPs can enter Malaysia with a hard copy of the confirmation paper. (Again, there are 3 types of such vehicle owners, the reporter did not give details).
- You can drop in (without an appointment) to collect VEP. But no details were given.
Anyway, the info in the news clip does NOT include any “official” announcement or confirmation.
Update 1 (September 1, 2019). There are no official announcements on the VEP implementation details at Johor Bahru CIQ (Sultan Iskandar CIQ Complex, Causeway) and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ (KSAB, Second Link) on October 1, 2019.
It is unclear how it will be enforced for individual vehicles:
- which hasn't been registered.
- which was registered but the owner has not received the invitation to collect the RFID tag.
- which was registered and the owner received the invitation to collect the RFID tag but hasn't booked an appointment.
- which was registered and the owner booked the appointment for the VEP tag collection/installation, but the appointment is beyond October 1, 2019.

Hi, i tried to register for collection appointment but it brings me to another system to key in username and password and it doesn’t seem like the same as the log in ID for the VEP portal.
Do you know how to reset that?
simon
There should be the same account/login. Does the link direct you tot he VEP portal?
The link in the email of “VEP RFID Tag Collection Invitation” can also be accessed inside the VEP portal.
You can first log into the VEP portal (https://vep.jpj.gov.my/#). Under manage vehicles, you can find your registered car. To the right side of the entry, there should also be a link to make the appointment.
Anyway, the link in the email should bring you to the VEP portal. You can always ignore the link and find the link inside the portal.
SS
I have the same problem. The appointment system directs to a different login page. The username is definitely not the same as the VEP login as the space is limited. Logging into VEP, the username is email address, but for appointment system, I cannot input all email address, it is limited to 12 characters only. Have you encounter this before?
simon
You can log in on the VEP portal, then check your registration.
king kiat ng
i’m having same problem , it just link us to another page asking for another username and password inorder to make the appointment
https://vep.jpj.gov.my/#/admin/new-tag-appointment
simon
Which page? The link you posted is correct. Anyway, as mentioned, you can just type the web address vep.jpj.gov.my in the address bar, then log in.
SS
I just found out from VEP. When u are asked to key in username and password when making appointment, there is a problem with the PC. Just use another PC or laptop to do make appointment.
simon
Very likely, your browser in the previous PC blocked some elements of the page.

When VEP was first introduced in 2018, I registered in the VEP portal and had confirmation document but it told me to wait for email for collection. I never received any emails to ask me to schedule for RFID collection. Would I need to re-register my Singapore vehicle again?
simon
Did you log in to the VEPO portal to check the status again? What is the status?
Sometimes, you can update the info (if there is no update, you can just change zip code, then change back) to refresh the registration.
Yong kk
How to go about it, if I am going to change my vehicle soon, after collected VEP tag for my existing car?
simon
The VEP is tired to the car AND the owner. You cannot transfer the VEP of the old car to a new car.
Legally, even if you buy a second-hand car with a valid VEP, you probably still have to apply for a new VEP because the old VEP is also tried to the previous owner (in addition to the car). Of course, because car transfer is done in Singapore, they cannot track it. This will become an issue if you are compelled to prove the validity of the VEP and car registration info in Malaysia.
Andrew
I first registered in 2016 using SingTel email address but this address no longer valid since 2017 after I cancelled SingTel account. I could only login on VEP site with SingTel address, which is also my ID for purposes of VEP. I have updated my current email address on its site but in email exchanges with VEP people, they said they could not send confirmation/appointment advices to this address, only to the old, cancelled one. So I am unable to receive such and they are unable to tell me whether my 2016 registration is still valid. I tried registering new account with current email address but my personal/vehicledetails do not change, so my attempt failed, as their system tracks the person. So it appears I am unable to proceed with VEP at all even if I change car. Welcome any feedback, advice. Thanks
simon
I think they do not allow you to change email.
If you can log in the portal, you can find the registered cars under you (in the right side of the menu, you can find MY VEP after log in). You can check the status and book appointment without the email. But you still need the email to receive some communications.
Andrew
Hi Simon, I have updated email address in Profile, but they still tell me any confirmation, appointment advice to me will still be sent to the original email, which is no longer in use. Made no sense at all. I give up.
simon
Because you can log in to the portal, you should be able to see your car registration. You can see the status of the vep registration. Once it’s ready for collection, you can book appointment from the link in the portal. You don’t need the link in the email. But when you book the appointment, you may try to take screenshots on the confirmation page.
Andrew
I clicked MY VEP, then My Vehicle, it showed plate number etc but no response when I clicked Confirmation Slip. Nothing on that page showed whether my registration ok. They have yet to tell me in my email exhanges with them, over period of 2 weeks, whether my VEP registration is ok. Thanks for your input.
simon
To the right of the owner name, you should have a download button to download the registration confirmation. You may try to use the Chrome browser with default settings. Probably your browser settings blocked something.
To the right of the download button, what options are available?
Andrew
I clicked Confirmation Slip but unresponsive.. Also : Tag, Update, Remove boxes. Pop=up blocker on Internet Explorer11 not turned on, no problems with other sites with pop-up. Getting help from them is like asking for big favour! Simple question like whether the 2016 registration is still valid unanswered. Thanks
simon
It should download the confirmation normally when you click the button (NOT right click).
Did you try other browsers, for example, FireFox?
Anyway, it seems your VEP is not ready because there is no appointment link.
JOYCE
hi, how to link the TnG apps to VEP? Before i can make appointment, the website prompt me to download TnG. After i download the apps, still prompt me the same problem. Please help.
Thanks!
simon
You need to register and activate a TnG eWallet account. You MUST use NRIC when it asks you for ID. Do NOT use passport number.
After the eWallet account is activated, you can wait a day, then try to book b the appointment.
JOYCE
Thanks..
i remember i did registered using the NRIC, but until now its still not link with the VEP.
Would it be because initially i received the notification to make booking for collection but i have a new vehicle.. so i updated the new vehicle details. But under drop down tab, there’s still tag appointment option. when i clicked in, its said e-wallet account is not active.
simon
As long as the NRIC matches in the registration and eWallet, there should be no issues.
But for your case, if you change the car registration info after receiving the appointment invitation, then it may have some issues. You’d better contact them if you still cannot make the appointment in the next a few days.
Joyce
thanks.. i had emailed to them regards to this but they still tell me to download the apps…
just checking do we need to addthe driver details under the tab ” MY VEP -> Drivers-> Register New Driver?
simon
As I know, no, it is not necessary to add yourself or others because you registered yourself as the owner.
For the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, it only asks you to confirm the phone number. Did you confirm the phone number?
Joyce
Yes i received a sms/OTP to confirm my phone tel…
simon
Is the account verified? Open the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, tap the person icon (near the top right), check “Account verification”. Is it “completed”? You can also tap it to see whether the passport number (the app does say passport, but it should be NRIC) is actually your NRIC number. It only shows the first and last letters.
Joyce
oh i was not able to verify it during that time..faced some error…
but now i went in again i was able to..and need to take photo of the passport and photo of myself. i shall try it out and hope it works… thanks alot for your advice.
simon
It seems they changed a lot for the eWallet verification. Last year, you only needed to verify the phone number, then provide NRIC number. Asking photocopies of passport or NRIC is reasonable. But how can they use photos?
Anyway, another member just shared his experience. He/she collected the VEP when eWallet verification is in progress.
Joyce
Hi Simon,
After my TNG account verfication is completed, but i still unable to make appointment. Back to their website still stated e-wallet account is not active. =(
simon
It usually takes a few days for the VEP system to detect it after the eWallet is activated.
Joyce
Hi Simon, I finally able to book an appt. But realised i cant make it to the timing which i booked.
Do you know if we have to be punctual during the appointment date & time? Can we go the date we booked but at a later time?
simon
Normally, it’s not necessary to be punctual. But you need to arrive there before they “close” the door. They may close earlier when they finish their job.
If you cannot make it on the date you chose, you’d better re-book. I am not sure how they will handle the case if you appear a few days later than the appointment.
Joyce
thanks Simon. I can make it on the booking date, just timing i can’t make it. Booked 8.30am, can only reach 11am.
Tried to change appointment but fully booked and dates not available for August.
simon
I guess it should be ok.
Suriana Taib
Hi Simon, my old car has been registered but have not received email to do booking. Now that I have changed car, i cant seem to update car info in system. what happned was i had to reset password since i had forgotten my earlier password. After resetting, I can log in but it sent me to a page asking me to update my profiles. After updating particulars, received an error message asking me to “please check or contact VEP support.”
simon
Can you ignore the profile updating request? Are there any other errors in the profile page?
For your case, I guess you should register the new car as a new registration and delete the old one.
Nl lau
Hi Simon, thanks for helping. I did exactly that, I registered my new car and now got an invitation to collect my rfid tag. Although I was told to remove the old vehicle registration, I was unable to do that on the main screen in my vep account as the “remove” option was grey out. And there is a tag word beside the old vehicle data. I just hope it will not create a problem when I collect the tag. I took a pic to show them if there is an issue. Any advice?
simon
It should be OK as long as the new registration info is correct.
Normally, there should be an edit option (before the tag is issued) or deactivate (after tag is issued). Anyway, if I were you, I would ignore it.
MK Leow
Which is the more convenient and easy to reach collection point if going in using the JB Woodlands causeway checkpoint?
Tks
MK
simon
When you book the collection appointment, very likely, only one location is available. So, probably you have no choice. Anyway, if there are multiple locations for you to choose, personally, I would choose Plaza Angsana. You can do some shopping in the old mall. For this location, the vep “container” is in the big open car park opposite to the mall.
MK Leow
Thanks for the advice. I will try my luck.
The collection notice listed 4 locations, but some said only one is available at a date, probably there is only one team of operation staff, rotating themselves over 4 locations.
Regards
MK
YK CHAN
Hi, wonder if anyone had fixed their rfid? I’m curious that how long one needs to wait since each time slot is given out to many until filled. If there are x many cars in one timeslot, wonder how long a queue is? Anyone with experience and comments? Thanks.
simon
The queue usually is short. There are normally more than sufficient staffs. But you have to wait at least 30mins because they need time to find the “correct” location for the sticker on the windshield. They also need to write down some car info.
Siew GK
I have book the appointment for VEP tagging. However I just receive notification that my TNG e-wallet verification failed because my photo is not clear.
Can I still go ahead with my VEP appointment before the verification is done?
simon
What photo? New requirement? I remember you only need to verify the phone number.
Anyway, in the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, you can contact them or call them directly (Open the app, tap person icon, then tap info, then you can call or email them). They also have a facebook page. They usually respond quickly.
For the VEP collection, I am not sure about whether you must finish the linking RFID to eWallet on the day or not. But, it is better to sort the eWallet issues before going.
Siew GK
Thanks for your reply.

I kept my VEP appointment yesterday and was issued the VEP tag although the TNG eWallet verification of my passport and photo was still in progress.
I arrived at the Plaza Toll Kedai Lima centre at about 10.30am although my appointment was at 2pm. I had meant to recce the place and return at my appointed time but was waved on to join the queue even though I informed them that my appointment was at 2pm. The whole tagging process was completed within 25 minutes with 5 cars ahead of me.
simon
Thank you for sharing the info. In the past, I remember they did not ask for photos last year to verify the eWallet.
Siew GK
Oh, I forgot to add earlier that they could not fix the VEP tag on the top of my windscreen. This was because my windscreen glass was too thick for the detection of the tag. They then fixed the tag on the left headlamp.
simon
That’s new. The heat from the lamp may make the adhesive less effective. You may have to check it frequently. I was told last year only very few cars had problems due to the thickness and additives of the windshield. They then pasted outside.
Did they collect the VEP fees?
Nl lau
Hi, may I know what is your car model..I am collecting my tag in 2 weeks. Good to know if I would have the same prob of the tag sticker on the head lamp.
Siew GK
My car is Citroen Picasso C4.
Siew GK
Yes, I expressed the same concern and was assured that it would not be a problem. They also mentioned that my windscreen was too sloping. The other concern I raised was that the tag might be damaged when I need to replace or repair my headlamp. I was told that I could get a replacement tag at the Gelang Patah R & R.
Other than paying RM10 for the tag, I did not pay any other fees.
simon
Thank you for sharing the info. So they haven’t started to charge the RM25 (for 5 years) VEP fee. Last year, they even did not collect the RM10 for the tag.

Am trying to book a slot for June but all 4 locations are indicated as not available. Is it because they only open slots at certain time of the month? If so, when is this? Many thanks
simon
Normally, only one or two places are available at one time. You need to check all locations for available slots (usually one week later but within one month).
Tony
Is a VEP required for Motorcycles?
simon
Yes, Motorcycles are also required to register for the VEP if you intend to ride it to Malaysia.
But you probably do not need to collect the VEP tag. So, you can just register online and print out the confirmation.
Masuri
How do i register for car that register under company? They ask me to upload authorisation letter, what authorisation letter do they need? What should i write in the authorisation letter? Can kindly advise. Thanks.
simon
I do not think there is a template for the authorization letter. Normally, you should:
1). print on the paper with company letterhead. (looks official).
2). state clearly that the company (name, registration number…) authorizes the person (name, IC, title…) to register the VEP for which vehicle (with details).
3). signed by someone who has the authority.
4). stamped with the conmnay chop.
5). scan it.
Andrew
ok so if we provide authorization letter for someone to collect the VEP on vehicle owner’s behalf, whose TnG ewallet should link to the VEP RFID at installation? The vehicle owner or the person we authorize to collect the VEP?
If its the vehicle owner’s TnG ewallet, then isn’t it a LPPL situation whereby vehicle owner needs to go down to collect too?
simon
It should always be the owner’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet.
The link between VEP and the TnG eWallet is done automatically by matching the NRIC number. It has nothing to do with the collection the RFID tag itself. Once the VEP tag is collected, they can key in the tag (RFID) info so that the eWallet starts to know your tag (and the eWallet can start to deduct your money).
For the collection, you only authorize someone to collect the VEP tag for you. He/she doesn’t do anything on linking the VEP to the eWallet. He/she doesn’t need a TnG eWallet at all.
James Lee
Had arranged to fix the VEP RFID Tag on my windscreen on Monday. But my Touch n Go e wallet App still shows No RFID registered after 3 days. Was previously informed by the staffs that it will be registered automatically within 24 hours.
Anybody encounter the above? Thanks.
simon
Given them one or two weeks. If it is still not linked to your TnG e-Wallet by then, you can check with them.
KeL
My link to make appointment to collect VEP RFID tag has expired? Is there another way to make an appointment?
simon
I think you have to use the link. When did you receive the link?
Did you check it in the vep portal?
KeL
I did and when I clicked on the link, it stated the link has expired
simon
I mean you can try the link inside the VEP portal.
Anyway, if it’s expired, it means you delayed too long (more than 3 months?). If this is the case, I guess you have to contact them to refresh the link.
kk
I also have same problem – tag appointment link expired and I got a confirmation slip on May 8 to 24, but I couldn’t book appointment until I decided to do so today, Jun 13. What can I do about it?
simon
Not sure. If you log into the VEP portal, can you find the link right to the car?
Awesome
so what is the solution for this?
simon
When did you receive the email? Did you try to find the link inside the VEP portal after logging in?
Steven Yong
Hi Simon,
I hv registered my E-wallet ID type with Passport and would not link to the VEP appointment.
I hv wrote to TNG careline to request assistance but with no result. I try creating another e-wallet acct but was rejected as one phone no can only registered with one account.
Can I change my existing E-wallet to other phone number ( as this is the only option I hv on my EDIT page) and re-register my existing phone no with a new e-wallet account, or how can I actually
cancel my present E-wallet account and re-register a new one.
Tks
YKE
simon
As I know, you have to call the customer hotline to cancel the account. But it will take time for them to cancel.
So, yes, it’s faster to change the phone number in the old account. Then you can register a new one with your IC.
Steven Yong
Hi Simon,
Thanks for the advise. I hv tried register with a new phone number, however, the ID default is set to Passport and not NRIC, and the verification page would not accept Singapore IC.
Hv also tried many time to contact their careline which put me on hold for long period with no available officer to assist me.
simon
It depends on the nationality you chosen. If you choose Singapore as the nationality, now it defaults to NRIC. Did you choose Singapore as the nationality?
If you are a PR, you should also choose Singapore as the nationality (although it’s incorrect technically).
TS
Hi, I would like to write the Authorisation letter from the vehicle owner (if owner cannot be present or registration is completed by a representative) for the VEP. Do you know the template or any advice on that? Tks.
simon
I don’t know there are any templates. Anyway, just a normal authorization letter.
Sam
I got the VEP paste and so far, I have not got an activation sms from your authority.
My ewallet was ID, I put it as passport. Can this be link to VEP?
Try calling many time to JPJ but no one is answering.
How does the activation work with ewallet?
Please help
simon
For Singaporean or SPR, you must use the NRIC in the Touch ‘n Go eWallet so that VEP and the wallet can be linked. This is highlighted in the emails.
Anyway, you need to contact Touch’ n Go inside the app and ask them to change the document type to NRIC.
samdol
Hi Simon
I registered Touch n Go eWallet using Singapore NRIC. However, when I verified my account on the app, the only ID options available were MyKad, Police ID, Army ID (for Malaysians) and Passport (for other nationalities). Tried selecting MyKad and photo of my NRIC but got rejected, so I had to select passport and took photo of my passport. The TnG ewallet account has now been verified for a few days already. But I am still unable to book the tag appointment.
I believe there has been some changes to the verification process of the TnG app since it was launched. Wonder if anyone else is facing this issue?
simon
Not sure why you got it. If you choose Singapore as nationality, then it should only has NRIC option as I know. What do you mean “register Touch ‘n Go eWallet with Singapore NRIC”. normally, you need register with a mobile number, then it asks you the nationality. Only in the next step, it asks document type.
Anyway, you may contact the support inside the app.

Hi, I try to register newly bought 2nd hand car for the VEP but it was having an error saying the vehicle number already registered. So how do I change the previous registered owner to my name using the online application? Thanks.
simon
As I know, you have to contact them through email. The online system is very basic and is not able to handle many scenarios.
Rosli
Im having the same prob here. Any update?
simon
Did you contact them?
SKS
Tried emailing them…no use….tried calling VEP helpline….also same…ask me to find previous owner. My car is 2nd hand. Checked with dealer & was told that got it from other dealers. LTA said cannot disclose but confirmed that previously registered under company. Dead end.
simon
Not sure about any solutions. It seems MY government did not plan for many different scenarios.
For your case, LTA is not allowed to disclose the owner info. Car dealers will not work hard to help you because they got all money already. Whether the dealer can disclose the previous owner contact info can also be a legal issue unless the previous owner agrees to see you.
Eddy Tan
Hi , may know after securing the collection vep date, can I just go down to collect without my vehicle..as I dont want to be stuck at weekend jam..
simon
Nope. You must drive the car there so that they can verify the registration before issuing the VEP tag. I remember, they also verify engine number, chassis number, in addition to car plate number.
You can use the Beat the Jam app to check the status in the two checkpoints. Normally, if you go through Tuas in the morning, and come back before 4pm (through either checkpoint), the jam is acceptable.

Hi anyone encounter errrors to upload authorization letter to VEP? I’m trying to register my company car under commercial segment but the upload fails for my PDF scan copy which is below 1MB as per their stated requirement.
simon
Did you get any error messages?
halizah r
hi, i received error messages but i was registering on behalf of the owner. So do i need to register my own vehicle or??? helpppp
simon
What error message did you get? Normally, the owner should register the VEP.
halizah r
it says “Error uploading Authorisation Letter.”
simon
Is the file size too large?
halizah r
nope, the file is within the stated file size
simon
Did you try a different browser?
halizah r
i did tried, but still the same
Jusri Azmil
Hi,im grab driver, the car im driving now is own by this guy which registered under his family business,so who actualy need to register this VEP?
simon
The person who is holding the registration paper can register. They can authorize you to register and you can proceed to register online. If the car is registered under a business, you need a authorization letter when collecting the VEP tag. Anyway, in the collection email, they will give you the list of documents required.
Jh
Hi, my car is registered under my name but not company. Can I still authorize someone else to drive the car in and paste the sticker for me?
simon
Of course, you can. When they notify you to make the appointment for VEP collection, the email gives you the detailed instructions and documents required if you authorize someone to collect the VEP for you.
Please note, they need to check the car physically. So the car must be present for time VEP collection.
Jh
How long do I have to wait for the appointment email after getting the confirmation email? Because I’m planning to go next week. Is it possible?
simon
It will not be so fast. After registering for the vep, you have to wait a while. They will notify you once you can make an appointment for the collection. The available slots for VEP collection may be at least a few days away.
Darren Ng
Hi, I going to collect my new vehicle on next week. I understand that I cant transfer the VEP Tag to my new vehicle, but how about the T N GO balance can it be transfer to new vehicle?
simon
You should have only one Touch n Go eWallet. It is tied to your IC. VEP tap is tied to the car. And the car is then tied to your IC. The eWallet then can be “linked” to the VEP for related payments when both are tired to the same IC. The linkage is simply an authorization for related payment (so that the Road Transport Department can deduct money from the wallet automatically).
So, you can have more than one VEP linked to an eWallet.
The Touch ‘n Go eWallet is actually independent of VEP. The linkage is just an authorization. You can close the wallet or just use up the money if you do not need it anymore. But if you scrap your old car, you need to deactivate the VEP in the VEP portal.
Tom
Hi, is it correct to say that the RFID tag is for easy auto deduction of the VEP fee, and that we can still use the TnG card to pay the charge if we opt against using the e-wallet? In this case, can we opt against sticking the RFID tag? Thanks!
simon
No, the main purpose is to identify the car (and possibly track the car). They can also stop a car in a checkpoint if there are some outstanding tickets for the car. So, once the VEP is enforced, you must have the tag (or an appointment letter for collecting the tag) when entering Malaysia.
Yes, for the time being, you can pay with the physical T ‘n Go card if the eWallet cannot be used.
James
Hi, I registered three weeks ago and got a confirmation registration letter. I have done everything accordingly to what is described above but still no appointment email, VEP login also the same . What would be the issue? advise please. Thank you
simon
You have to wait. They don’t give you an ETA. It seems the system is not consistent on the processing time.
Once you have time confirmation email, it should be very likely ok to enter Malaysia when VEP is enforced later this year. They will issue the notice on this issue when they enforce VEP.
If you still don’t get the appointment for another one or two weeks, you can try to “update” your info (e.g., adding a space to your address).
Wee
Hi, I bought a resale spore registered car and trying to register for the VEP under my ownership. However, the system shows the car no plate has been registered and I guess most probably registration done by previous owner. Is there any way I can revert the car registration info ?
Please enlighten.
simon
As I know (as in last year), you cannot revoke the previous registration. It seems they did not have a procedure to follow for such cases. Although VEP was announced a long time ago, the standard procedures for different cases were not prepared thoroughly.
You can write an email to them with the car plate number to see whether they can do something now.
Rosli
We’re in the same boat. I emailed them and below is their reply. They asking to find the previous owner. Crazy. After I told them difficult to track down, they ask to email them supporting doc to state transfer of ownership done. Emailed them on 9 Jul 2019 and till now still the same. Every week I email them ask for status, they just say still under process. WTF.
========================================
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
Please be inform regarding your issue, it will occur when the vehicle is secondhand or rental vehicle.
You need to find the previous owner for them to deactivate the ownership of the vehicle on her/him account.
Then you may register the ownership of the vehicle under your ownership.
You may get the previous owner details from the dealer you deal with during purchasing the vehicle.
If you are the previous owner of the vehicle (transferor), you are responsible to update the vehicle ownership status.
Failure to do so, you shall bear the risk of being fined for any offence possibly committed by the new owner.
If you are the new owner of the vehicle (transferee), you are responsible to apply for a new VEP and ensure that the previous owner has updated the vehicle ownership status.
Thank you.
Regards,
VEP Support Team

Thank you for sharing the very helpful info on this issue.

Hi Simon,
I tried to create an account in the Touch n Go eWallet app on my phone but I am not able to do so when I key in my phone number as there was no OTP being send to me. I have been trying to do this for the past 2 days but still no OTP was send to me. What could be the problem? As this is the final step which I need to do before I can book my appointment to collect the RFID.
simon
Probably, you didn’t select Singapore when inputting the phone number. The country code selection is not automatic in the T ‘n G ewallet app.
OTP is valid only for a few mins. You may check the phone number and request a new OTP.
mike
I did select Singapore country code when entering my number but still no success. Everything was in order.
simon
Not sure. It’s very rare that OTP is not received. Do you block some numbers on your phone?
siti nazarah
Hi, my tng was registered under my mobile nbr, name n nric previously.
But since the car was registered under my brother’s n nric but same mobile number im unable to book appt
Email them to delete the old app so i re-regiatered since app but no up till now.
Pls adv
simon
It’s a bit confusing.
The VEP should be registered under your brother’s NRIC. Your brother should have a T ‘n G eWallet account under his NRIC.
You can change mobile number inside the T ‘n Go app. You should contact Touch ‘n Go inside the app if you have problems to change mobile number or register an account. One mobile number can only be used in one account.
Eric
What is the correct ID type to link VEP tag to Touch ‘n Go eWallet for my case as I am Singapore PR?
simon
NRIC.
It is the same as that in the LTA registration. Do NOT use the passport.
KM
HI Simon,

Hi
I’m registering this VEP for my dad but they are asking for an authorisation letter. May I know what’s that?
simon
It’s just a normal authorization letter stating that someone is authorizing other person to do something on his/ get behalf.
Normally, for private cars, the owner should register the VEP. When collecting, your father can authorize you to collect. This should give fewer problems.
If you register VEP for others, more documents or verification may be required.

Hi,
I have registered for the VEP, received the confirmation and linked my TNG e-Wallet and hoping to collect the tag before Sept ends but seems that all the appointment dates from now till end of Sept are full. Slots in Oct appear to be ‘unavailable’ too. Any one has any idea if our neighbours will really start the implementation on 1st Oct and if we can still do the collection after the implementation?
Thank you in advance!
simon
Of course, if you have a VEP collection appointment, you can enter Malaysia to collect the VEP tag even if the VEP tag is enforced. Otherwise, how can new cars get the VEP tag?
As a part of the Malaysian government, the Road Transport department cannot set up outlets in Singapore. For jurisdiction reasons, the VEP tag must be issued and collected in Malaysia.
In the past, they usually released the collection slots 3-4 weeks in advance. Also, you need to check all collection points because some collection stations may be unavailable for certain periods.
The very tricky part is for those who “registered” the VEP, but no appointment for collecting the VEP tag yet. Last time, I was told as long as the VEP is registered, it is considered as “registered”. But it seems there are no guidelines for these cases yet. Hopefully, they will make it clear whether or not those who registered but haven’t received the invitation for making appointments are considered as “registered” and enter Malaysia freely when waiting for the invitation.
John3288
I have the same issue. There are no more available slots at all the locations in Sept for collection of the RFID tag. Question is you need an appointment to collect. Has anyone contacted them on this issue ?
simon
The VEP implementation detail has not been announced yet.
It is unclear how it will be enforced. In April, it was announced the VEP would be enforced on Oct.1 after long delays. But they didn’t announce the details.
As a Singapore driver, we have to wait. It’s not our government and therefore you cannot push for more info. They work in their way
Sunny
Hi, I’ve successfully log into the VEP website but I can’t see any of my car details which I am trying to change. Then when I try to update my profile, it says my NRIC has already been registered and does not allow me to proceed further and contact technical support. Appreciate your advice on how to resolve this issue.
simon
You have to email them for the issue. If you can speak Malay, you can call them during office hours.
This actually is a loophole in the registration system. The unique identifier is email for the registration. But the profile requires unique NRIC, which they cannot identify (Malaysia government cannot use SingPass to validate a Singapore IC). They can only identify it by matching IC with car registration paper. This is why they need to check the documents and IC when collecting the VEP tag.
The workflow seems ok if everyone follows through. But if someone just registers for fun, he may use a fake IC or other person’s IC without uploading car registration paper, then the registration will be stalled. The IC number will be hogged. In Singapore, IC number was abused in last a few years.
Anyway, are you sure you didn’t register before with other email accounts?
sulaiman
i’ve been trying to sign in for the application of VEP for the pass few days.Unfortunately unable to continue the process and system ‘hang’ up.pls advise
simon
You can try a different browser or PC/laptop. As I know, there are no problems in the system. Very likely, the issue was caused by your browser or PC.
Chrome or Firefox browser should be fine.

My uncle is an Australian working in Singapore under Employment Pass and drives a Singapore registered vehicle. I help him to register VEP almost 5 times since May 2019 and only received VEP REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION SLIP with no email to collect VEP RFID Tag. Wrote to VEP and received 2 standard replies with no solution.
On the other hand, I help my sister to register and she received an email to collect the tag within 5 days of application.
Can anyone help.
Thanks
Terry
simon
Did you follow up and chase them again through email after you got the reply? Sometimes, you need to be a bit pushy (and politely).
It is usually faster if the owner registers the VEP by himself (the registrant matches the LTA paper).
Swee
Hi, I don’t use or own a smartphone, so it’s not possible for me to a create an eWallet account. I’ve tried calling the JPJ hotline (either no one answers or the line is busy) and emailing JPJ several times for advice. To date, I still have not received any reply from them. Would you know what other alternative or options there is for me to make appointment for collecting the tag?
simon
IMHO, they will unlikely cater your request. At the end of the day, you still need to set up the eWallet. So, do not waste time on this issue.
Please note, you do NOT need to maintain the eWallet. It is only required for VEP collection. At least, at this time, they do not demand you to maintain the eWallet. You do NOT need to top up money to it. You just need to verify it once.
Lily
All locations fully booked till end of September. I have all document ready but can’t make appointment. Not a good idea to drive in and try my luck right?
simon
There are no official announcements on the VEP implementation details. So far, nobody knows the details.
Normally, if you are waiting to collect the VEP, it is probably safe. Last time, I heard it is ok as long as you can provide the registration confirmation email (i.e. registration is enough). But it is very likely changed because it has many loopholes.

Hi Simon, my dad created a profile but did not receive any confirmation / invitation email.
– When we login and go to My VEP > Vehicles, it is not clickable.
– If I click on ‘Edit my profile’ and try to proceed to the next step, I get the error message “NRIC has been registered”.
We tried writing in to the email address of VEP two weeks ago but have not received any response. Quite stuck on what to do next… Do you have any advice? Thanks in advance.
simon
After log in, by default, you should enter manage vehicles page. Is the vehicle listed? If not, you can click the Register a new vehicle to add a new vehicle.
Did you try to change NRIC number?
szweet
When i login using my phone (we were using my desktop earlier), it brings me to the update profile page rather than manage vehicles. How do I change nric if we only have one ic number though?
simon
Anyway, you should access the website from a desktop or laptop. The mobile version doesn’t work well.

Update : your IC comment did inspire me, cos my dad is Malaysian / SPR and I entered him as Malaysian in the website before. When I changed it to Singaporean, we’ve managed to register for VEP now. Thanks for your help!
simon
Thank you for sharing the update.

For private hire cars registered under business:
1. Is it considered commercial vehicles?
2. Should the car rental company do the VEP registration or should the car rental company authorize drivers to do the VEP registration?
3. After selecting commercial, there is a field that requires an authorization letter, may I know this authorization is for what purpose? Company authorizing their staff to register the company vehicles? Company authorizing their hirers to register the vehicles?
4. As I understand that the TnG ewallet needs to be linked to the VEP RFID at installation, to use the car rental company ewallet to link or use individual hirers ewallet to link to VEP RFID?
5. If use individual hirer ewallet to link, upon hirer return of vehicle, does it mean the VEP RFID must re-register and re-fix?
Thank you for your replies.
simon
You’d better check with Malaysian Road Transport Department to get “official” info. They haven’t released any official documents to address many situations.
Anyway, based on my understanding:
1. This is a grey area. You can try to register it under Private category and owned by a company if the car is registered under your company in Singapore.
2. Not the driver in this case. It should be the owner. Because the car is registered under a company, you need to designate a person in your company to register it.
3. You need to authorize some staff to register the VEP.
4. It should use the eWallet owned by the person who registered the VEP.
5. VEP is tied to the car which is then tied to the owner. It has nothing to do with the driver. So, you need to pay the tickets incurred by the drivers.
Anyway, this is just my understanding. They may be not correct. You should check with them to get the official words.
Andrew
Many thanks bro, your reply even more prompt than aduenvep… cheers

Hi Simon,
I have 2 vehicle registered under my name. I have done the VEP registration since 2016 but till today no confirmation of the collection date.
I registered again on 24/9/19. I have received the confirmation slip ( I got it in 2016 too for both cars)
When I log in the account, I can see the registration of both the vehicle but on the right side , there isn’t any appointment whereby you can clip and book the appointment. I was told by my brother he got the appointment from there.
Another question, if my second car is driven by my brother, the touch n go e-wallet, how?
Can my car be driven by others to Malaysia?
Thank You
Mimi
simon
You have to wait for the email that invites you to book the collection appointment. The link appears in your account only after the email was sent out.
You must use your Touch ‘n Go eWallet. Also remember to use your NRIC, not the passport for the eWallet.
The driver doesn’t matter. VEP is for the car. The car owner (not the driver) is responsible for it.
